Soil Nailing is used for a number of reasons in the UK.

Soil nails are used for slope stabilisation where an existing embankment has failed or collapsed , the soil nails are installed on a designed grid usually overlaid by a flexible steel mesh.

Soil nailing is used to support old stone or masonry walls

Soil nailing is used where an existing slope needs to be cut into to provide space for housing or industrial units the soil nails and mesh are installed in a top down construction closely following the excavation of the ground leaving either a gabion type finish or soil filled baskets to promote plant growth.
